FOR OPENSOURCE ENTHUSIASTS
The Unicorn Naked BCI is for all engineers, programmers, scientists, makers and others - whether you work in a university, technical school, maker space, or just at home.
The Unicorn Naked BCI is for all engineers, programmers, scientists, makers and others - whether you work in a university, technical school, maker space, or just at home.
The Unicorn Naked BCI allows you to build your own EEG head-set and BCI applications with high-performance hardware and open-source tools within hours.
Developers, artists and makers are able to acquire and process brain signals, ranging from simple display of the signals, to design and control attached devices or interact e.g. with artistic installations, toys, computer programs or applications.
Get 100% purity in your EEG data and access to high-quality EEG data and APIs for maximum development freedom.
g.tec set a new standard of BCI in 1999, when we released the first API for BCI/EEG systems to allow developers to create their own applications.
Get complete control over your Unicorn Naked BCI and the real-time performance. The Unicorn Naked BCI is acting as your hard real-time clock:
Stable and pure EEG data guaranteed.
Based on 20+ years of BCI experience.
Many EEG headsets are heavy and small movements produce artifacts and loss of data. The Unicorn Naked BCI is as light as possible to get the best EEG data.
Use the high-performance hardware and well-implemented software to kick-start your project.
Extract cursor controls and button clicks rapidly.
Use the best algorithms to calibrate the BCI headset within seconds.
You don’t have to replicate apps that already exist! Use the example code and projects available on GitHub and contribute with your own projects.
The Unicorn Naked BCI includes the Unicorn EEG Recorder which gives you the best EEG Scope and access to raw data.
VISIT GITHUBThis repository contains many tools to develop under .NET and with the C API, examples to interface a Raspberry Pi and tutorials about how to interface Bluetooth with the Unicorn Naked BCI hardware directly. Additionally, you’ll find manuals about how to integrate Unity or to send BCI commands to other applications.
This GitHub repository shows the programming projects that you can chose when you participate in a BR41N.IO Hackathon. Get inspired by many, many cool ideas.
This GitHub directory shows how to use Java to develop cool apps under Android.
The Unicorn Naked BCI uses 8 EEG sensors that measure the precise neural activity for control purposes. Using your thoughts to control a Virtual Reality has never been so easy!
Simply mount a HMD like Oculus or HTC to control a highly immersive enivornment in real-time with your mind.
Enhance your game experience by adding Unicorn Naked BCI as a direct command and play with the power of your mind.
Game developers can integrate the Unicorn Naked BCI to open virtual doors or to destroy blocks as extension to the key-board controls.
Integrate the Unicorn Naked BCI directly into Unity for Gaming and VR/AR highly immersive apps.
You think walking on the slackline can beat the Unicorn EEG quality? Nope! Even this cannot make the Unicorn EEG stability any less perfect. Come up with your exciting BCI ideas and let the Unicorn Naked BCI do the rest!
The unciorn-horn shaped headset picks up brain activity with a built-in camera that takes short movies based on how and when children with ADHD pay attention.
Light Up Kitty Ears! This is Stella wearing 3D printed Kitty Ears as a perfect accessory while brain-controlling the Sphero Robot. On hackster.io, you'll find the complete DIY Kitty Ears tutorial.
This video shows a prototype of a 3D printed headset for BCI experiments. Single parts are printed with solid PLA. Multiple parts are merged with a simple connector system to a flexible headset, which can be extended and modified easily.
During the BR41N.IO Designers' Hackathon, students from a fashion-school in LInz, Austria combined leather and lace elements into a stylish EEG headset that is fully functional.
The team designed a BCI game where Player 1 uses a keyboard to control the game and Player 2 uses BCI to remove obstacles for Player 1 in order to win the game. This team won the BR41N.IO IEEE Brain prize and the 1st BR41N.IO Designers' Hackathon prize in Miyazaki, Japan.

Electromagnetic interference can produce distortions in the EEG data and can make huge parts of the recordings unusable. But even more importantly, electronic devices can produce interference to other products and this is completely unacceptable because it can endanger people.
The Unicorn Naked BCI components are therefore EMC tested and follow the international normatives.
The Unicorn Hybrid EEG Electrodes allow you to record dry or with gel. Dry recordings are fast to setup. For better performance, conductive gel can be applied.
The electrodes do not show polarization effects like many other systems and outperform other materials.
The biocompatibility of the hybrid EEG electrodes is tested according to the normatives.
Electrode cables fullfil the 1.5 kV protection according to the normative to avoid any danger for the user.
24 Bit ADC resolution for optimal digitization with a high oversampling rate to boost the signal-to-noise ratio.
Li-Ion high-power accumulator for 2 hour recordings. Charging via a USB connection.
Li-Ion accumulators are very light and it’s very important to reduce the weight of the system for optimal performance.
The LED strip comprises 8 LEDs that can be controlled with APIs:
The Unicorn Naked BCI is designed environmental friendly and fulfils the RoHS Directive.
The RoHS Directive aims to prevent the risks posed to human health and the environment related to the management of electronic and electrical waste.
The g.tec offices are powered with 100 % renewable energy.
Bluetooth transmission to a Windows computer, Linux machine or Android phone. The data is transmitted sample-by-sample for perfect real-time performance.
The wireless transmission follows the FCC standard to ensure that no other electronic devices are distorted.
The Unicorn Suite offers a .NET API, C API, Python API for developing individual applications. Visualize, store or perform real-time analysis of brain activity as you wish!
